Little Fishermen

Little Fishermen
Emma and Henry went on their first fishing expedition this year. Granpa and Henry had gone on a special shopping trip to prepare and came back with a fishing hat and a fancy Spiderman rod. After practicing his casting at...

New Pastures

New Pastures
Our last visit to Broad River Bison was an exciting one. The bison were grazing in a brand new pasture! On previous visits we'd seen them in nearly-bare pasture. With two pastures available rotation is possible, which gives the grass...

Running Up Currahee

Running Up Currahee
If you've seen "Band of Brothers" then the name Currahee will be familiar. Easy Company was forced to repeatedly run the mountain while training for WWII. While we were in Toccoa for Christmas I decided to tackle Currahee Mountain myself.

Henry And The Tractor

Henry And The Tractor
If there are two things Henry love they are cars and tractors. He was in luck, then, on this last visit to the farm where he was able to ride both on Granpa's tractor and do a little digging on the backhoe.
Where The Buffalo Roam
I visited Broad River Bison earlier this summer during a surprise visit and met my Dad's bison for the first time. They were a little scrawny in the heat of the summer so I was excited to see what they would look like with their winter coats on.

Bison in Georgia

Bison in Georgia
As if my surprise appearance weren't enough, Dad arranged a surprise birthday lunch for my mother at the Wolf Mountain Vineyards. After an afternoon nap it was back to the farm to visit with the bison. They were a bit more frisky this time, thundering down the hill for food.

Tatanka!

Tatanka!
I was in Cary, NC just before Memorial Day weekend this year. I thought it would be a nice surprise to drive down and surprise my mother for her birthday. It was also a convenient excuse to visit the family farm and view the latest addition. Buffalo!
Henry and the Strawberry Patch
While Emma remains fairly non-committal when it comes to berries Henry is an unabashed fan. He eats while picking, he eats after picking... whenever and whereever he can get his hands on some berries.

Broad River Fun

Broad River Fun
After recovering from their bout with the flu, Granma and Granpa were ready for more fun with the kids. We returned to the farm for one last visit, this time down to the banks of the Broad River. We ended the day by having dinner with an old friend.

Hayride at The Farm

Hayride at The Farm
Just before Thanksgiving we took a trip to the family farm for an old fashioned hayride. Granted, there was no hay since we're all allergic, but there were blankets and warm coats and a trailer full of grandchildren, cousins, brothers and wives.

tanaka farms

tanaka farms
Emma's pre-school went to Tanaka Farms at the height of strawberry season for some hot, you-pick vegetable action. Both Henry and Emma chowed down on fruits and veggies, with Henry being the more adventurous of the two. (Observant readers will...

visiting the farm

visiting the farm
Visiting the old family farm is always a highlight for me when we head back home. I have such great memories from when I was a kid, from splitting logs to finding cow skulls. Emma's second trip proves to give just as many memories
First Half of July Mommy has been the prodigious writer and photographer thus far in July. I'm falling far, far behind. While Marla has written two giant entries and taken several hundred photos I've written a measley 200 words...

emma on the farm

At the end of May, while still back in Georgia, we took a trip down to the family farm. Papa O.N. grew up here along with all of his brothers and sisters. Great Aunt Ruth and her husband, Forest Peeples,...
The day after Christmas we headed up to Toccoa for a few days to visit my grandfather and the rest of the crew. I've been lucky to know all of my grandparents, lots of my great aunts and uncles as...
