Playing On The Square
We took a jaunt to the Marietta Square on a fine spring day, mostly to play on the train. While Granma watched Emma and Henry play, Marla and I had an excellent Turkish lunch at Efe's Restaurant. Cora, as you...
Happy First Birthday, Cora Belle!
It's hard to believe that an entire year has passed since Cora joined us but time does fly, especially when you are having fun. We had an excellent birthday shindig this evening, attended by many and enjoyed by all. A...
Baby's First Biter Biscuit
If you're a fan of messy babies, you are in luck! This set of photos shows Cora gnawing on her first biter biscuit. It was a messy affair, indeed, and one that she enjoyed immensely. These pictures were taken back...

Buttermilk Biscuits

Buttermilk Biscuits
My favorite food in the world are Marla's buttermilk biscuits. They're flakey, buttery and gosh-darn good. To make excellent biscuits you must use soft, winter wheat flower. The lower protein and gluten content makes for softer, flakier biscuits. We like...
Birthday Boy Rides Again
Henry turned three in December and put a check mark next to one of the required rites of passage for children: getting a first bicycle. We gave it to him on his actual birthday and let him tool around for a bit ahead of his party on the weekend.

Concerts and Candy

Concerts and Candy
Emma and Marla went to see The Nutcracker at the lovely Orange County Performing Arts Center in December. It was the first time Emma had been to see ballet and she was absolutely ecstatic. The show didn't disappoint her one...

Aunt Dot Pays A Visit

Aunt Dot Pays A Visit
It's not often that we get visitors out here on the lonely, smoky West Coast. We were very excited, then, when Aunt Dot paid us a visit earlier this summer. This was the first time that Emma and Henry had met a "great" on Marla's side of the family.

Watermelon, Watergun

Watermelon, Watergun
Henry and Emma had been to a birthday party not too long before and had gotten waterguns as party favors. Watching kids with their first waterguns is a treat, let me tell you. Henry had a great time, not only squirting me but also himself!

I Love My Scooter

I Love My Scooter
In the meantime we're long overdue for some pictures of the kids in action. How long overdue? Well... let's just say that some of these pictures date back to May. If you've seen Emma and Henry recently then you'd likely notice the change.

Meet Mister Rogers

Meet Mister Rogers
I introduced Emma and Henry to Mister Rogers this week. We've grown a little tired of Blue's Clues over the past few months. And by "we" I mean Marla and I.

February, Finally.

February, Finally.
We had a visit from Marla's parents during which we celebrated Estelle's Leap Day birthday. You'll find some pictures from a princess party Emma attended as well as a our first plays with the magical Wii.
The Melting Pot for Birthdays
My father happened to be in town for my birthday this year so the whole clan went out for a fancy fondue dinner at the new Melting Pot in San Clemente. The kids behaved well and really enjoyed themselves... even more so when the chocolate fondue came out for desert!

Broad River Fun

Broad River Fun
After recovering from their bout with the flu, Granma and Granpa were ready for more fun with the kids. We returned to the farm for one last visit, this time down to the banks of the Broad River. We ended the day by having dinner with an old friend.

Yummy Ice Cream

Yummy Ice Cream
We made chocolate ice cream the other week and, as you can see, the kids seemed to enjoy it. It was the first time we'd attempted making chocolate and it turned out fairly well. I think that Emma and Henry would have enjoyed it either way!

Mommy's Birthday

Mommy's Birthday
Marla quietly had a birthday in August. Emma and Henry helped me make a cake early in the morning. (How much they helped vs. how much they ate is a matter up for debate.) We ended the day at Disneyland with some spectacular fireworks.

Grubbin' Banana

Grubbin' Banana
Henry stuffs his face with banana and you'll find some pictures that could very well be Cute Overload material... if only my children were, you know, animals. Later in the day she and Henry took turns making sweet music (sort of) with my guitar.
Oatmeal Face, Concerts and Car Wash
It's a dangerous thing, giving an 18-month old a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast. After a few meals like the one pictured above we learned to strip Henry down to just his diaper before serving him. It's better for everyone that way.
chop sticks and water fountains
A few weeks ago we went to P.F. Chang's for dinner. I forget what the occassion was but we ended up having a blast, as you can see. Both Emma and Henry ate with abandon. This is always a nice...

what's in a name?

what's in a name?
Emma has a very active imagination. It's hard to keep up sometimes. For example, our entire family has whole sets of new names depending on what game she's playing, what day it is or what season it might be. Where...

henry owen turns one

henry owen turns one
Our sweet Henry-boy turned one on December 21 and was surrounded by friends and family. About a dozen families, some from GameSpy and some from Mom's Club, helped us celebrate the occassion. Truth be told, I think the party was...
